In collaboration with CERT, the Center of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT) of the Higher Colleges of Technology, the Punitive and Correctional Institutions Department at Abu Dhabi Police organized training courses for inmates at Al Wathba and Al Ain Sections. The courses, which fall in line with the rehabilitation programs and therapeutic and guidance activities for inmates, aim at promoting innovative thinking and drug prevention.

In Al Wathba Section, experienced psychotherapist/ behaviour therapist and social worker Dr. Victor Jarawan moderated a training course titled “Creativity and Innovation Management”. This course focused on the definition of creative thinking, its importance and ways to advance it; as well as the proper means to develop thinking skills; codes of practice, definition of thought disorder (disorganized thinking) and its symptoms; and creative thinking components. Dr. Jarawan also gave an overview of the brain and personal obstacles, in addition to past experiences that impede creative thinking. The participants took part in a practical exercise on innovative thinking or the so called ‘thinking outside the box’.

The second course was designed for drug addicts’ rehabilitation at Al Wathba and Al Ain Sections. Dr. Jarawan tackled the dangers and damages of drugs and how to avoid them, prevention means, and the contributing factors of drug abuse. The course also included individual and collective therapy sessions using brain storming techniques, and understanding skills for personal and social issues. During the sessions, participants received advice and guidance, as well as psychological and behavioral support.
