7,850 tickets for erring motorists

Traffic Police campaigns conducted from December 13 2005 to January 21 2006 resulted in issuance of 7,850 tickets to erring motorists.
According to Lt.Col.Ahemed Abdullah Al Shehhy, head of the Traffic and patrol section at the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police, parking in no parking areas topped the list of violations with 3,436 offences, followed by obstructing traffic with 931 tickets and lane indiscipline 857.
About 568 offenders were fined for not fastening seat belts and 258 for parking in spaces designated for the physically challenged, he said.
