329 people lost their life in road accidents in eight years 

 
329 people were dead and many others injured in various traffic accidents during the past eight years from 1999 till the end of 2006 according to Colonel Gaith al Zaabi, director of traffic and patrols department at the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police.
 
A total of 3373 people were injured during this period. Amount the injured 351 were seriously injured, 1318 were of medium fatalities and 1714 were of minor injuries.
 
In 2006 448 people were fatally injured out of which 35 people were dead and 62 seriously injured.165 were of medium fatalities and 184 minor injuries, said Colonel Za’abi.
 
The main causes of the accidents were due to various reasons among which over speeding and not following the traffic regulations remained top. He cautioned the motorists to strictly adhere to the traffic laws and assure the safety of the self and also other road users. Any violation will not be tolerated and will face legal consequences besides the fines imposed he added.
