The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Umm Al Quwain General Headquarters has launched its first campaign this year under the slogan “Observe the right of way.” The campaign is part of the2016 operational plan developed for the traffic sector at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Umm Al Quwain(UAQ) Police, and will last until the end of March.

Lt. Colonel Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of the UAQ Police, said that the campaign embodies the MoI’s and UAQ GHQ’s strategy. It also falls in line with the initiative to further implement traffic awareness programs in order to maintain road security and ensure traffic safety for all. He pointed out that the traffic awareness campaigns contribute to instilling the concept of traffic awareness in the spirit of drivers and road users.

“This campaign is implemented in cooperation and coordination with other entities concerned with traffic safety in both public and private sectors. They support these initiatives to create safe atmospheres and environments, curtail traffic and run-over incidents, and focus on the diversity of traffic awareness means via text messages, social media, lectures and the distribution of awareness pamphlets, brochures, leaflets to the public in their localities,” he added.

Lt. Colonel Obaid stressed the need to support efforts made by the traffic police in order to reduce traffic accidents and consequential deaths, serious injuries and loss of life and property, in order to maintain motorists’ safety and the safety of others.

He appealed to all institutions, civil society, drivers and road users to cooperate with the directorate in order to achieve the desired goals of the campaign.
