A delegation from the UAE, headed by Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, attended the opening ceremony of the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore; and the INTERPOL World Expo, which was held alongside the official opening of the IGCI.

A number of ministers and senior security officials from the 190 member countries of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) attended the opening of the IGCI.

Lt. General Al Sha’far stressed that this meeting is an important event for international police agencies, and highlighted the myriad of distinguished contributions the UAE has provided in such events. He additionally underlined the keenness of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to participate in all INTERPOL activities in order to support the level of cooperation and to strengthen joint efforts.

“The opening of the IGCI provides the most advanced capabilities in terms of research and development for the detection of crimes, the identification of criminals, the development of innovative training programs, and for the further provision of field support and partnerships between member countries,” he said.

It is noteworthy that the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) complements the duties of the INTERPOL’s General Secretariat in Lyon, France; and enhances the organization's presence in Asia. It goes beyond the traditional policing model and provides proactive research in many fields along with the latest curriculum for training techniques. The IGCI additionally provides police entities around the world with the necessary tools and capabilities to confront the challenges in a rapidly-changing world.

The delegation of the Ministry of Interior included: Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzainah, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police; Brigadier Sheikh Sultan Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police; Colonel Abdul Wahid Ahmed Al Hammadi, Head of the Interpol Department at the Ministry of Interior; Colonel Ibrahim Sultan Al Zaabi from the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ; and Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Mazroui, Head of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Interior.
