Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior attended the first session of the strategic guidance workshop (2017-2021) for the Naturalization, Residency and Ports sector. The workshop took place at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr hotel in Abu Dhabi and was attended by various leaders of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the general directors of Naturalization, Residency and Ports.

His Highness stressed the need to accord further attention to the Naturalization, Residency and Ports sector, describing it as the gate to the United Arab Emirates (UAE.) Moreover, he encouraged the participants to submit the best proposals and studies, so as to reach a strategy consistent with the significant development witnessed in the UAE. “We must endeavor to confront the real challenges facing the Naturalization, Residency and Ports sector, keep abreast of global developments, and provide sophisticated services that meet the aspirations of the higher leadership,” he said. His Highness Sheikh Saif also pointed out that the UAE is one of the most attractive countries to live in and a top expat destination for people of various nationalities. “It welcomes a huge turnout of visitors and has a busy calendar of international activities, events and conferences,” he stressed.

His Highness Sheikh Saif also attended the second day of the workshop, where the participants discussed the results of the sessions during which constructive proposals were submitted to develop the sector. The attendees also discussed the scenario planning concept and innovation in the public sector. Furthermore, police leaders and senior officers from the ministry took part in a brainstorming session to come up with innovative ideas that would reinforce the level of services provided by the Naturalization, Residency and Ports sector.

During the first day of the workshop, the participants discussed the sector’s strategy in line with the vision and mission of the UAE Government. Then, the participants were divided into four main groups to brainstorm ideas and proposals related to the security affairs strategy; service affairs; smart transformation; performance indicators of the axes and services; and the ports’ strategy.

Lt. Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shimmari, Executive Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Smart Government Program, played a short film about the evolution of the MoI. The film documents the ministry’s efforts in terms of the provision of smart and electronic services that meet the needs of customers and achieve their satisfaction, commensurate with the sweeping development drive witnessed by the UAE smart government initiative.

The workshop also reviewed the most important outputs of the leaders’ sessions, which focused on the challenges of the future and proposed development initiatives and requirements to achieve and implement these projects.

The workshop was attended by police leaders, general directors at the Naturalization, Residency and Ports sector, and a number of officers from the ministry.
