Participants in the Ministry of Interior’s council, hosted by Mohammed Bakhit Al Ketbi in his house in Al Ain, under the title “The Effect of media on Youth” recommended promoting the role of the media to introduce the youth to the proper use of the internet, and raise their awareness on the risks of misusing the social media websites.
The council is part of a series of awareness councils organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau, in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. It was moderated by media figure Saeed Al Abdool from Abu Dhabi Media Company.
The council stressed on the importance of parental follow up for the children while using social media websites, to protect them from being exploited in any way by vile criminal.
Colonel Obeid Mohamed Al Zaabi, from the Public Relations Department, at the Ministry of Interior said that modern communications methods increased the interaction between members of society and technology. They also facilitated acquiring information in various fields and the positive interaction between institutions and the public.
“Misusing the internet could lead to dangers and negative consequences, especially on children, as they are not fully aware of the proper ways of utilizing the internet.” He added, “I call upon the parents to supervise their children and raise their awareness on how to use social media websites, to enrich their education and create chances of creativity and innovation, without falling victims to the dangers lurking within.”
The host Mohammed Bakhit Al Ketbi, hailed the role of the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Law Respect Culture Bureau, and the Security Media Department, as well as their leading role in addressing and fighting the various negative phenomena in society. This helps achieve the highest levels of social security, safety, and stability. “The Ministry of interior, through its various police commands and departments, spares no efforts to spread the awareness culture amongst the various segments of society,” he concluded.
