The Ministry of Interior participated in the American Correctional Association (ACA)’s annual conference, which was held in the State of Louisiana, USA.

A delegation representing the MoI and headed by Brigadier Hamad Khamis Al Dhaheri Deputy Director General of Correctional and Punitive Establishments attended the conference, which discussed the successful experiences and methods of social integration of inmates, and getting prisoners life-ready to prevent a return to crime. The latest programs and surveillance equipment used in those establishments were displayed at the conference.

The delegation members visited the Orleans Parish Prison and were briefed about the procedures applied at the prison, as well as the tasks and duties performed by the prison’s staff.

Brigadier Al Dhaheri also met with Ms. Mary L. Livers, President of the American Correctional Association (ACA), and Mr. James Gondles, Executive Director of the ACA. During the meeting, both parties discussed the ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the punitive and correctional field between the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America.

Towards the end of the visit, the MoI delegation presented a commemorative shield to John Bel Edwards, the Governor of Louisiana.
