The Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department in Al Ain launched the fourth season of its Ramadan competition titled “The Field Challenge.” The competition includes 16 teams divided into two groups representing the different governmental institutions and departments in Al Ain, and is organized by the Al Ain Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department for the fourth consecutive year.

The official draw for the competition took place in the presence of Colonel Khalifa Matar Al Humairi, Director of the Residency and Foreigners' Affairs Department in Al Ain, and of the participant teams’ representatives. The event began with the screening of a documentary film about the competition’s mechanism, the previous seasons’, and the participating and winning teams throughout the past seasons.

This year’s competition will see the participation of 16 teams divided into two groups of eight teams each. The teams will compete in a single-elimination tournament, which will include questions on culture, religion, sports, history, traditions, puzzles, and general information. The games are managed via an electronic program produced by the Al Ain Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department, on par with similar programs.

As per the participation prerequisites, each participant is required to choose a name derived from the Emirati tradition. The Al Ain Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department announced that the conclusion of the competition coincides with the ‘Zayed Humanitarian Day’ day, which marks the death anniversary of the UAE’s founding father, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The closing ceremony will be an opportunity for participants to remember the commendable acts and doughty humanitarian deeds of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which benefitted countries of the world without discrimination.

The first round witnessed a competition between Al Ain Courts’ team and the Social Support Centers’ team. The Al Ain Courts’ team won and qualified to the final eight’s round. In the second round, the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) defeated the Al Ain Police Directorate and qualified to the final eight’s round.

This year’s participant teams include the Al Ain Courts; Al Ain Residency;Al Ain Police Directorate;, Al Ain Municipality;Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority; Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC);Al Ain Traffic and Patrols section; Al Ain Development Department; Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC); Dar Zayed Family Care; and the Community Police. Also participating are the  Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural Center; the Al Ain Naturalization Section; Al Ain Transport; Al Ain Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization, and the Social Support Centers.

It is worth mentioning that the competition is held on a yearly basis for the past four years. The first season was inaugurated in 2013 and was solely an internal competition for the different sections of the Al Ain Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department. The second season was held in 2014, and participation was extended to include governmental entities and departments in Al Ain. Eight teams, representing national and governmental institutions, participated in the second season. The third season of 2015 included the participation of 16 teams representing the Al Ain governmental departments and institutions.
