With the support of teams from the Directorate General of Civil Defense in Dubai, Civil Defense teams in Sharjah and Ajman managed to put out two separate apartment building fires. The first fire broke out at a residential 22-storey building under construction in Al Majaz area in Sharjah; the second fire broke out at a 17-storey apartment building, which includes a 3-storey car park near the prayer mosque in Ajman.

Civil defense firefighters managed to contain the flames, which started in the top floor of a building under construction, and prevent the fire from spreading. No injuries were reported in the incident. However, 18 individuals suffered mild injuries, mostly due to smoke inhalation in the fire that engulfed part of a residential building in Ajman. They were immediately transferred to hospitals for treatment. A number of apartments were also damaged in the fire.

Major General Jassem  Muhammad Al Marzouqui, Civil Defense  General Commander-in-chief who personally supervised the firefighting operation, called upon building developers, contractors, owners and residents to abide by the general safety guidelines and instructions issued by competent authorities for under construction, residential and commercial buildings; and stressed the need to take all preventive measures and general safety requirements at buildings sites, as stipulated by the Civil Defense laws and regulations.

In conclusion, Major General Al Marzouqui emphasized that the Civil Defense across the UAE are on standby and are ready to receive reports around-the-clock via the emergency number 999 or 997; wishing safety for everyone.
