The Al Ain Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department at the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi carried out a successful mock fire drill to extinguish a fire that broke out at its building. During the drill, which was conducted in cooperation with Al Ain Civil Defense Department, rescue teams managed to evacuate staff members and customers and put out the fire within minutes.

As per the drill’s scenario, the Al Ain Civil Defense Department received a tip-off on the outbreak of the ‘fire’ at 10:00 am. As soon as the alarm sounded, safety officials evacuated the building and escorted employees and customers to muster points pending the arrival of civil defense and rescue and ambulance teams. The evacuation plan was conducted according to the scenario after notifying the relevant police authorities and Civil Defense, which immediately rushed to the site and handled the incident efficiently and professionally in record time. Lights were off and the alarm on at the building the entire time, as would be the case when a fire breaks.

Colonel Khalifa Matar Balquba' Al Humairi, Director of the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department in Al Ain, explained that the drill falls in line with the Ministry of Interior’s policy related to the environment, health and occupational safety system, to ensure readiness in cases of emergency. In conclusion, he said: “The department prepared for the drill and coordinators from the various sections and administrative units were trained and given an overview of all emergency exits, and how to make sure they are kept free from obstruction at all times. They were provided with their respective assignments and given distinctive jackets to be recognized by anyone who may need help.”
