Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ) will organize tomorrow, Wednesday, the International Anti-Corruption Day Conference. This first of its kind conference at the country level will be held at the St. Regis Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

Lt. Colonel Matar Mu'ded Al Muhairi, Head of the Anti-Corruption Department at the Abu Dhabi Police noted that this event is part of the International Anti-Corruption Day, celebrated worldwide on the 9th of December of each year. "This occasion is an international event during which the energies are dedicated to raise awareness and share experiences on ways to combat corruption," he noted.

Additionally, Al Muhairi underlined that this conference reflects the keenness and the attention accorded by the higher leadership to educate the community on this issue. Moreover, he pointed out that corruption hinders all political, economic or social development within any society, and this fact highlights the need to exert further efforts at the global level to deal with it and combat it.

Furthermore, he said that the conference aims to promote ways of cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC); as well as promoting the country's efforts in the fight against corruption. He concluded that this conference will also contribute to support the UAE bid in the United Nations Convention against Corruption in its second session, raise awareness of the dangers of corruption, and generate viable recommendations that contribute to the activation of combat mechanisms.
