The Research and Survey Center at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) organized an introductory workshop onthe mechanisms foropinion polls and how to calculate results and read reports, sat the Ministry's Smart Library headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Strategy and Performance Development Director General at the MoI, highlighted the MoI’s eagerness and commitment to following scientific research methodologies in order to achieve development. He pointed out that the role of public opinion polls is increasing for various community issues and concerns, because of their importance in clarifying public opinion trends and tendencies. This is something that is relied uponbydecision-makers and policymakers in many countries throughout the world and contributes to raising the services levels of police and security work.

The workshop was directed by Major Dr. Omar Rashed Al Shehhi, Director of the Research and Survey Center at the MoI, who noted that opinion polls are necessary to identify the views of different segments of society and listen to their needs, problems and suggestions, and in doing so, contribute to supporting and developing of the necessary action mechanisms, and thereby achieve the Ministry’s vision and mission. “The opinion poll is one of the most important practices and tools for various institutions and entities, and are relied upon globally to support decision-makers and provide them with the necessary information and available alternatives,” he added.

The workshop focused on explaining the principles and rules of exploratory data collection and the distribution and analysis of questionnaires. It also discussed the difficulties that impede coordinators during their work, in addition to filling in application forms to conduct surveys and following-up the process to implement the opportunities for improvement.

The workshop also dealt with the sample selection method, the mechanism for calculating representative samples, as well as the definition of some of the concepts related to survey standards and indicators, such as the concept of job harmony and loyalty, happiness in work, innovation and others.

The coordinators were honored for their cooperation and coordination efforts with the center in implementing the MoI’s opinion polls, with certificates distributed to the participants at the end.
