"Al Qanas" in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Western region

ADP Department of Traffic and Patrols started operating the new mobile radar "Al Qanas" (The Sniper), in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, on Tuesday. The aim is to curb violations of speed limits on internal and external roads, to apprehend reckless drivers and book them in presence, as part of the comprehensive strategy of traffic control, in order to curb occurrence of severe traffic accidents and resulting deaths and serious injuries.

"Traffic control campaigns involving under cover and police patrols, provided with the new radar, work around the clock", said Colonel (Engineer) Hussain Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of ADP Traffic and patrols Department.

The new radar is provided with high technical and sensitive capabilities. It can work day and night in different weather conditions to spot uncivilized behaviors on roads and streets.

Harsh punishments will be imposed on reckless drivers. Last year 1061 drivers were booked for reckless driving, 185 for endangering others lives and 447 for racing on the road.

On the other hand Al Harthi, within the framework of awareness campaign organized by the Department in celebration of 26th GCC Traffic Week, under the theme "Beware others mistakes", during the period from 14 to 21 March 2010 in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region, urges parents and families to interact with these efforts and not allowing their kids to drive their cars in a reckless way, especially teenagers who run road races between them, turn their cars left or right sharply the thing that leads to control loss over the car and making loud noises with their cars.
