MoI organizes medical and preventive activities against diabetes and breast cancer

 

Ministry of Interior and its concerned Departments have organized health activities for its employees to protect them against diabetes and breast cancer. At MoI Headquarters the Department of Medical Services has launched recently an educational campaign on the risks of diabetes. The Correctional and Punitive establishment, Al Wathba Section has organized, in collaboration with Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, a lecture under the title “Protection against breast cancer” in Arabic and English.

Colonel Ali Khamis Al Holi, Director of MoI Medical Services has affirmed that the campaign against diabetes comes within the framework of MoI strategy to serve the community and to deliver all modern services to its employees and to spread preventive culture among all MoI employees against diabetes.

‘Organization of the campaign coincides with the UAE and world countries celebrations with the World Diabetes Day (14 November). The campaign includes cultural lectures and medical examinations (blood sugar, BP and sugar accumulation rate).

1st Lt. Maytha Mohammad Saeed al Kaabi, Campaign Coordinator and Director of laboratory Tests and x-rays at the Department of Medical Services has stated that the campaign has been divided into three days. The first day was Sunday at Ajman City Center which attracted 150 persons. The second day was at Al Arabi Center in Dubai, which attracted more than 200 individuals and at MoI Hg which attracted 100 of MoI employees.

The Department of Medical Services has provided well equipped medical, technical and administrative crew for the same purpose. A number of gifts, awareness publications and brochures were distribut3d to participants, in addition to a questionnaire seeking participants satisfaction with the campaign and delivered services.

Major (Physician) Maryam Saeed Rashid Al Naqbi, Director of Central Clinics Branch at the Department of Medical Services delivered a lecture on “Protection against diabetes”, in the presence of Brigadier Mohammad Saleh Badah Al Awadhi, MoI Acting Director General of Public relations and a number of officers, NCOs and Civilians from MoI. She defined the disease and its complications. Then she talked about the types of diabetes. At the end of her lecture she talked about those who are most exposed to the disease. Then she answered the questions of her audience about the disease.

Dr. Haifa Al Nahdi delivered a lecture on breast cancer disease attended by al Wathba establishment’s inmates and employees. She explained the causes of the disease, the importance of early discovery and methods of protection and treatment. AT the end of the event some inmates were tested and educational booklets were distributed.

The lecture organization reflects the care that the establishment gives to its inmates, in order to communicate with all civic bodies to establish correctional, rehabilitation and treatment role.
