Under the auspices of Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minster and Minster of Interior, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, inaugurated on Tuesday the Breakthrough Leadership Conference 2011 organized by the Abu Dhabi Police at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Al Sha’far conveyed the regards of Sheikh Saif, considering the country's hosting of the conference as  an opportunity that support continuous cooperation to uplift security training to keep abreast with latest development and provide police work with all capabilities in order to maintain gains of security and stability which the UAE enjoys under the visionary leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The conference was attended by major general Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary - General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minster and Ministry of Interior, Major General Staff Khalifa Harib Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Resources and Support Services, Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, director general of Finance and Services, major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, director general of police operations, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of central  Operations of Abu Dhabi Police, a number of senior police officers and a huge crowd of officials.

The Ministry of Interior, in order to achieve the well-being and growth of the society, has adopted security and safety within its strategy, affirmed Al Sha’far, indicating that the conference is intended to share expertise about the best practices to explore promising employees and prepare them to become future leaders.

The conference was organized in coordination with the police and civil agencies inside the country and abroad, thereby creating a safer and more stable community, maintaining stability, reducing crime and contributing to achieve justice among the public.

The conference focused on ways to develop and eliminate the obstacles of administrative leaderships at the present time, the challenges and the efforts made in this respect in light of the rapid global changes.

Four paper works have been discussed in the conference. The first paper was presented by Manfred F. R. Kets De Vries is a clinical professor of leadership development at INSEAD, where he holds the Raoul de Vitry d'Avaucourt Chair of Leadership Development. He focused on the type of leadership which we need and the challenges and opportunities to change the institutional culture. Talents and culture are important elements, he stressed in his paper.

He refereed to the psychological difficulties facing the leaders, indicating that great police personnel possess leadership qualities. He warned of narcissistic which has negative impacts on the leaders.

 In the second paper, tilted ‘transformational leadership’, Sir Norman Bettison, the chief constable of West Yorkshire Police tackled the importance of domestic security and its reliance on the international cooperation.
The third paper, on leadership chemistry, was presented by Sheikh Hamza Yousif, an American who converted to Islam, and started his studies in the UAE. He graduated from the San Jose State University as one of the outstanding students. He got his PhD from the University of California Graduate Theological Union (GTU).

Professor W. Chan Kim, Co-founder and Co-Director of the INSEAD Blue Ocean Strategy Institute has presented a paper tilted ‘blue ocean strategy ‘.
