In line with the awareness programs the Traffic and Patrol Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police launched a traffic competition on the occasion of the new academic year. The competition will be broadcast on the radio daily during the morning period of the Holy Quran Station. It aims to increase the level of traffic education among the public in order to promote traffic safety during the new academic year, and to encourage society to support efforts that aim to reach an accident-free year.

Lt. Colonel Jamal Salem Al Amri, Head of Public Relations Division in the Traffic and Patrol Directorate, noted that the traffic competition is one of the events among the diverse traffic awareness programs under the program to reduce accidents. The competition is organized under the theme “Together,” and also presents lectures conveying traffic awareness messages and target the educational sector and society.

Al Amri explained that the traffic awareness radio competition will include five traffic awareness questions in each of its five episodes; the winner will receive a price of AED 1,000, which is AED 500 cash and a fuel “Rahal” voucher worth AED 500. He said that the aim of the completion is to spread the traffic educational knowledge among the public and students in addition to promoting a sense of responsibility and involving them in the awareness process.

He mentioned that the traffic awareness plan includes several programs that are executed through interactive means and the media. They include lectures, competitions, visits, and prizes in addition to catalyzing society to participate and cooperate to achieve an accident-free year.

He encouraged motorists and school bus drivers to adhere to the traffic laws, to keep children below 10 years of age at the back seats and not to randomly stop in the schools surroundings. He also advised students to adhere to the rules and remain seated in school buses, and not to put hands and heads outside the windows, not to litter inside or outside of the bus, and to keep an approximate distance of 10 steps when waiting for the bus, and not to bother the bus driver.

First Lt. Hamdan Al Derei, Head of Media Affairs and Director of Radio Branch, in the Security Media Department, stressed the importance of utilizing and benefiting from interactive programs in order to increase the traffic awareness, especially those programs that are widely followed by the public such as the “Sabah Al Nour” program of the Holy Quran Station.

He said that the launch of the competition is an important tool in conveying the traffic message that will lead to an accident-free year, due to the role played by all media in providing the public with information that increases their traffic awareness, and eventually conveying the Abu Dhabi Police message to all society members.
