Abu Dhabi Police and Sharjah University sign agreement  

 

In response to the directive given by Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for introducing a dental print to support forensic medicine, the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ has recently signed an agreement with the University of Sharjah on providing consultancy services and training from the University’s Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development to the Abu Dhabi Police.

The agreement includes reevaluation for the current plans of Abu Dhabi Police related to disasters on both local and federal levels. The agreement calls on the University to include the services of dental criminology for the current plans and assisting in formulating a national team of dental criminologists to identify victims of disasters. It will also help in registering the team with Interpol.

The agreement has been signed by Major General Khalil Badran Director General of Abu Dhabi Police’s Finance and Services and Fareed Mahmoud Al Ameeri, Director of UoS Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development, with the presence of Col. Dr. Saif Budhufaira Al Ameri Director General of Abu Dhabi Police’s Security and Ports Affairs.

Major General Badran said University of Sharjah will work out the requirements for identifying identities of persons through dental DNA as per criteria of the UAE community and Interpol.

“The University of Sharjah will give advice on the actual logistics for prompt response to crisis,’’ he added. He said that the agreement includes a complete program to figure out the identity of persons including fingerprints, DNA and train the Emarati team which had been chosen as initial start for establishing the national team of dental criminologists.

For his part, Col. Dr. Saif Budhufaira said that Abu Dhabi Police is seeking to implement the best international practices and utilize them in combating crimes and serving justice. This comes, he added, in line with the preparations of the Security and Ports Affairs Department to create the criminal geology section whose structure will include some dental print specialties, pointing out that the agreement will include reviews for the current crisis plans employed by the Ministry of Interior.

Abu Dhabi Police has chosen three national dentists to, after getting training locally, be sent to the US, Germany, Sweden and Norway to have advanced training and practical experience.

He said the agreement is part of the centre to forge partnerships with all local entities to deliver best training services.
