Tough penalties for human trafficking under study
Draft law brings UAE in line with global standards
A national committee for combating human trafficking has been set up on the directives issued by his highness Lt. Gen.Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior.
The committee comprises representatives from Ministry of Interior, Foreign affairs, Labour, Dubai Police, Red Crescent society and the Zayed establishment for charitable works.
A draft law that will bring UAE more in line with International standards to eliminate human trafficking will be issued soon according to a senior official. The draft prepared by the Ministry of Justice to criminalize trafficking and protect the victims proposes tough penalties for all forms of trafficking, said Sultan Bin Saeed Al Badi, Under Secretary of the Ministry.
The draft law is being assed by the national committee for combating human traffking includes the definition of human trafficking and procedure for follow up action of the law and educate the people regarding this menace ,said Al Badi ,who also heads the national committee set up for the purpose.
The law will also regulate support and protection for the victims of this crime, said Al Badi.
