Three people were killed and 277 others were injured
 
The highway accident reports put death toll at three people and those injured at 277 people, of different nationalities. 130 of the injured were rushed to Al Mafraq Hospital, condition of 10 of them were critical, 20 moderate and 100 light injuries. Four other serious cases, 23 moderate cases and 100 light injuries were rushed to Al Rahba hospital. One serious injury case was rushed to Dubai hospital.

Colonel Hamad Adeel Al Shamsi, director of the department of traffic and patrols said the first aid and evacuation operations took place in four hours despite weather difficulties experienced by the rescue vehicles, adding that non leaving a space among the vehicles and poor weather combined, were the causes of tragic accidents.

He urged the highway road users to be cautious, particularly at the early morning hours, adding that a space should be left between vehicles to avoid accident should there be any sudden stop of a vehicle. A contact light should be on whenever necessary.
