Role of media in security matters stressed
Symposium on relation between Police and the Media begin
A symposium on relationship between the Police and Mass media began at the General headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police yesterday. The two day symposium is organized under the patronage of His Highness Lt.Gen.Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Interior, by the center for research and security studies of the Abu Dhabi Police.
The opening session was chaired by Major General Saif Abdullah al shaafer, undersecretary to the ministry of interior. The main participants of the symposium includes representatives of the federal bureau of investigations of Germany, the French police, university of Leeds ,UK,international federation of journalists, top ranking police officials, from UAE and mass media experts from UAE.
Major General Al Shaafer announcing the opening of the symposium extended to the participants the greetings and best wishes from His Highness Lt.Gen.Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Interior and called upon the participants to discuss creatively the role of media in assuring social security and safeguarding the interests of the people and the country.
The police he said will always want to remain transparent so that the media can provide true information to the public. The police will not interfere with the freedom of the press, but the media must assure accuracy and take care of security issues while disseminating the reports, he stressed.
The media and the Abu Dhabi police enjoy better relationships and always the media was cooperative. Symposiums like this will help better interaction and understanding between them, said Al Shaafer.
The relationship between the police and the media during emergencies was discussed by Prof.Clive Walker from United Kingdom, police and media relationship in Germany was discussed by Dr.wolfgang Steinke, Dr.Hessa bint Abdullah Louttah from UAE spoke about the media and social security.
Brigadier Dr.Abdalla Al Musharrakh chaired the session moderated by Lt.Col.Dr.Khalid Saeed Al Naqbi.
Lt.Gen.Dhahi Khalfan Al Tamim, commander in chief of Dubai police will also address the symposium on the second day.
