Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, mandated that the Ministry of Interior’s Award for Smart Applications become an annual event.  The second version of the award was launched today, Sunday.

Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations and Head of the E-Services and Smart Applications Team at the Ministry of Interior (MoI), said, “This award reflects the keenness of the ministry to open new horizons for creativity and to provide an environment that encourages innovation, thus improving the services in our beloved homeland and making the UAE one of the best countries in research and development. This award also falls under the vision of the government to place the UAE as one of the most creative countries in the world, reflecting the national strategy for creativity.”

He also added that the second version of the MoI award embodies the ministry’s commitment to building strategic partnerships with academic institutions in order to attract and support the innovative ideas of students. It also aims to build and encourage talent and stimulate their innovative ideas in order to foster the established service structure in all fields - most particularly in the electronic and smart fields.

Major General Dr. Al Raisi also noted that the MoI Award for Smartphone Applications will include the category of ‘Best Innovative Ideas’ for university students and is based on the best service practices via the Mobile Government Guidelines in addition to the specific standards of the MoI Awards for Smartphone Applications. Both standards will motivate students to participate in technological research development.

Initially launched last year, the first version of the awards witnessed an overwhelming response by academic institutions. Previous Government Summit winners were honored based upon the five criteria which included: antecedence and need, ease of use, professionalism, specialization, added value, and creativity and innovation. The amount of the prizes totaled AED 250,000, which was divided into three levels: students, academic staff, and supervisors.
