Seat belt violations rampant at night and on weekends

A study conducted by the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols department on the use of safety belts recommended extra patrols at night and on weekends.

The study prepared by Dr.Hassan Yousuf Al Hosni ,researcher and specialist in preventive medicine and traffic safety at Zayed Military hospital suggested that there are more violations during night hours and on weekends.

The study was a part of the five month long campaign –yes to safety belts was conducted by the department in association with Abu Dhabi national oil company. The study have pointed out that there is little awareness about the importance of using seatbelts especially in the rural areas than cities

The study recommends more such campaigns as it helped to improve the use of seatbelts by the motorists. The study has pointed out the number of UAE nationals violating the seatbelt rules are more than that of expatriates. The uses of seat belts by the passengers are also very low, Dr. Hosani said
