One killed and 57 injured in road accidents in the capital
One person was killed and 57 people sustained various injuries in 29 traffic accidents in Abu Dhabi and its suburbs from may 20 to 26
A weekly statistical report issued by Abu Dhabi Traffic Police said that these accidents caused light and moderate injuries to various people and one person was seriously injured. The report stated that the accidents were caused due to the violations of traffic rules and safety regulations by motorists such as entering the road without checking the movement of vehicles, jumping the red signal and not keeping safe distance between vehicles.
An analysis of the nature of accidents showed that there were 20 cases of collusions, 5 cases of people being run over and four overturning of vehicles. as for violations they went down from 15,294 two weeks ago to 12,146 last week.overspeeding topped the list throughout the period under review, accounting for 6,831 of total violations.1,227 tickets were issued for not using seat belts ,jumping of red light dropped from 742 to 290 for the same period.
About 210 tickets were issued for motorists violating lane discipline, 246 for using mobiles while driving, 182 for not keeping safe distance between vehicles. Ten motorists were booked for reckless driving and 13 for driving without license and three for wrongly overtaking, says the report.
