National campaign for safety awareness begins with mass rally and exhibition
 
Major General Al Shafaar inaugurated exhibition at Marina mall 

 
A National campaign to create traffic safety awareness was launched yesterday with a Mass rally from Hilton hotel at corniche which terminated at the Al Marina Mall where the opening ceremony of the campaign exhibition was inaugurated by Major General Saif Al Shafaar, Undersecretary to the Ministry of Interior.
 
The theme of the campaign is “our safety is our responsibility”. The campaign is being held under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chair person of the General woman’s union and is organized by the Ministry of Interior and Emirates traffic safety society with participation from the Government and Private organizations.
 
Addressing the press after the opening ceremony Major General Al Shfaar expressed great regards for the patronage of Her Highness and concern for the traffic safety of the people of emirates, especially woman and children. He said that this year campaign will be concentrating more on the families and children to spread the message of traffic safety. He also thanked His Highness Lt.Gen. Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Interior, for his support and initiatives in organizing this event.
 
 He said that the campaign which will go on till the third of March will be conducted through out the United Arab Emirates. Many exhibitions, symposiums, lectures, distribution of safety literatures, traffic safety classes will be conducted at various places during the campaign period.
 
Various exhibition stall have been set up to spread the message of road safety. Among the stalls included woman’s union, emirates driving school, ETSS, medical directorate, municipality, central operations. Special learning aids and painting contests were held during the opening session. The exhibition and other programs will continue till March 3rd.
 
The organizing committee includes representatives from Emirates media, Public relations department, Traffic department, Ministry of Higher education and other Community representatives will see to the successful implementation of the campaign, he added.
 
He called upon the media and all other communities for their active participation in the mass rally and all other events that follow through out the campaign period. He stressed the need for a united and continuous campaign against the menace of road
