Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, met at the Police Operations General Headquarters at the Capital Police Department, with the visiting German parliamentary delegation, headed by Dr. Hans-Peter Uhl, Chairman of the Home Affairs Committee in the German Parliament, the Bundestag, at the Federal Republic of Germany.

During the meeting, the two parties tackled a number of issues of common interest, and discussed means to enhance cooperation and coordination in the areas of police and security work; particularly in the field of police training and the exchange of visits, experiences and traffic safety.

At the beginning of the meeting, Major General Al Awadhi commended the close and joint cooperation between the two countries. He also praised the efforts of the qualified Germans trainers, on the professional training level, which revealed diversity in the advanced and modern styles.

In a related context, the Head of the German delegation, Dr. Hans-Peter Uhl expressed his thanks to the government and people of the UAE, and to the Ministry of Interior, for the hospitality, and for the joint fruitful and constructive cooperation between the two countries in various fields, particularly in the police and security field. He pointed out that the success of the training courses reflects the keenness of the police institution in the UAE, to benefit from the experience of others; and to the efforts exerted by the officers, and their desire to acquire further knowledge.

Dr Uhl also gave an overview of the Federal Republic of Germany’s experience in curbing crime rate and traffic accidents, and in promoting the culture of Law respect, and traffic awareness, which is instilled in the young people hearts since the beginning of schooling. Moreover, Dr. Uhl pointed out that the media plays a significant role in this aspect; by sending direct messages to young people and adults, as well as to motorists, urging them to respect the law, and acquainting them with the means of dealing with the street and public places.

Dr. Hans-Peter Uhl concluded by emphasizing the importance of exchanging visits, ongoing training, and the exchange of information. He also noted that he would present a report to the German Minister of Interior, explaining the importance of organizing courses and exchanging expertise.

For his part, Brigadier Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrol Directorate, praised the joint cooperation between the UAE and the Republic of Germany in the field of traffic and road safety. He noted that, during the visit of the German Minister of Interior to the UAE, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two parties, to exchange experiences in the field of traffic and train the Traffic and Patrol Directorate officers in German universities. He also reviewed the Traffic and Patrol Directorate’s experience in reducing traffic accidents, through a variety of projects and awareness campaigns, targeting adults, motorists and school students.

In another context, Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Abu Dhabi Police, noted that there are continuous meetings and significant cooperation between the CID and the German Police attaché at the German embassy, in addition to the exchange of criminal security information between the two countries. Colonel Borshid also stressed the importance of continued joint cooperation, which promotes security relations, pointing out to the numerous training courses that took place recently, in the field of surveillance and information gathering.
