Opening a Driving Test File
This e-Service allows you to apply for a driver's test.
The legal Age fit to open a file per categories:
-
To open a light vehicle file, the applicant needs to be 18 years old or above.
(A person may drive a bus with a passenger capacity ranging between 14 and 24 without having to open a new file).

To open a motorcycle file, the applicant needs to be 17 years old.
-
To open a mechanical vehicle file, the applicant needs to be 21 years old.
(He/she does not need to join the Emirates Driving Company in Mussafah)

To open a bus file the applicant needs to be 21 years old or above.

To open a heavy vehicle file, the applicant needs to be 21 years old.
(To open a mechanical vehicle file, the applicant should first hold a heavy vehicle file).

Special Conditions

After receiving the training card, applicants must refer to the Emirates driving training company to receive a theory training certificate as he/ she will not be allowed to take the test before bringing this certificate.

Clients can bring forward the test date in return for a fee of AED 50. In case the applicant fails three times in the road test, his/ her file will be transferred to the Emirates company to undergo theory and field test.

Ladies are not entitled to open a driving license file of heavy vehicles or motor cycles.

UAE Nationals, men/women, wishing to open a new driving license should hold passports issued from the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Otherwise, they should present a letter from the Traffic Police Department in the Emirate, place of issuance, proving that the applicant has never opened a driving license exam file, or obtained a driving license.
For Residents:

Holders of personal sponsorships: In case the sponsor is a UAE National and the residence permit is issued from one of the Northern Emirates, then the sponsor should present whatever proves that he/she lives or works in Abu Dhabi, in addition to a letter from the Traffic Police Department of the said Emirate stating that the applicant has never opened a driving license exam file, or obtained a driving license.

Holders of residence permits issued by a federal ministry or a government entity: In case the residence is issued from one of the Northern Emirates, the applicant should bring a lease agreement to prove that he/ she lives in Abu Dhabi, in addition to a letter from Traffic Police Department of the said Emirate stating that the applicant has never opened a driving license exam file, or obtained a driving license.

Holders of residence permits sponsored by private companies: holders of residence permits issued from a Northern Emirate and who work in one of the private companies in Abu Dhabi shall be allowed to apply for a driving license in Abu Dhabi provided that his job title is director/manager and should present a lease agreement proving his residence in Abu Dhabi. This procedure applies to their wives and children.

Those with no evidential documents: opening a driving license file for this category is restricted to those employed in the police, armed forces or Ceremony Department. This procedure does not apply to their relatives.
New Driving License
This service is to issue a driving

When the applicant first requests a duplicate driver's license from the licensing authority for issuing a duplicate in case of loss, he /she shall be given a temporary
authorization to drive, valid for two weeks at a cost of AED 100.

When the temporary
authorization expires, and if the original license has not been found, it shall be withdrawn from the concerned and be given will be replaced with a new driver’s license at a cost of AED 300.

Special Conditions
The GCC license held by UAE and GCC Nationals can be replaced only under the following terms:

If the license, to be replaced, is no more valid, and has expired for no more than six months.

If the license-holder works for Abu Dhabi Civil Service, or holds a trade license registered under his name. (GCC nationals).

The license, whether expired or valid, can be replaced in case of data mistake (name, nationality).
