  • Colonel Muhammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dahiri, Strategy and Performance Development Director General, the General Secretariat of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, announced the completion of the first  standard draft of the quality management system (ISO 9001:2008) for Police institutions, reflecting global best practices.

This initiative comes within the implementation of Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters’ vision to preserve the Abu Dhabi Emirate, as a secure and safe society. The initiative aims to provid high quality police services for citizens, residents, and visitors, under Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and the supervision of Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior.

After the completion of the quality management system, Abu Dhabi Police Strategic Management and Performance Development team developed a guiding standard for police work, within the quality management system (ISO 9001:2008) context. The team was also briefed on the similar global practices in multiple fields, such as health and education.

Colonel Muhammad Al Dahiri emphasized that this standard is concerned with the police institutions applications in general, taking into consideration the differences and the requirements of the Police Institution structure on the regional and global level.

“This specification has exclusively established the quality management system general framework for the police institutions in terms of the system architecture, the documentation type, and the required training as well as the responsibilities and powers, the identification of the processes, and their effective measuring mechanisms in order to achieve the police institution objectives and strategies within the concept of quality,” he added.

Colonel Al Dahiri stated that this standard aims to consolidate the concept of quality in the police institution in many developmental aspects, especially the provision of Police services in a harmonious way to strengthen the stability and investment in the local community and meet its needs.

“This project is one of the leading global projects, in terms of the nature of this standard and its field of application. This achievement underscores the great efforts exerted by Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters at all levels to develop the police work in the administrative and field levels in order to safeguard security and stability in society,” he continued.

This standard was discussed and locally adopted within the United Arab Emirates by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology.

Efforts were also exerted in coordination with the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology and the International Organization for Standardization has worked on the adoption of this standard in the Gulf as the first guiding standard related to the police work along with other standards.

This achievement is as a result of the Abu Dhabi Police’s trust for the great importance of excellence, as an essential part of the strategic development process, which constitutes a pillar for success and excellence to progress for the better in all fields in order to raise the strong reputation of the United Arab Emirates in international forums.

It is worth mentioning that the work on this standard started early in 2011, as an internal initiative in the Abu Dhabi Police, after an intensive training for the staff on the global best practices and the technical methods for developing and formulating the global standards.

This standard summarizes the efforts exerted by the working team in collaboration with the concerned partners.
