The
Emergency & Public Safety Department established in
Nov 2000 under the name of Ambulance & Rescue Section,
and started its service in the field on May 2001 in Abu
Dhabi and outskirts.
- Alain
Section started on Oct 2002 and Tariff Section on July 2005.

The
field Duty started in 2001 with 51 Paramedic and 28 Rescuers
and the number increased gradually to 258 Paramedics and
305 Rescuers.
- The
Department started with four branches under Ambulance &
Rescue. This number increased to 35 branches under 7 sections.
- A
group of local students were sent to Australia and Germany
to acquire the highest level of education in Paramedic Studies.

In
2001, the total number of employees were 150, which gradually
increased to 1837 employees after merging the Quick Intervention
Section and the Marine Police Section with Rescue and
Ambulances under one department called Emergency &
Public Safety Department.

The
Quick Intervention and Marine Police Section were merged
together with Rescue & Ambulance in Dec 2006.
- The
Training Department trained a total number of 7983 people
in 425 different courses.

Twenty
UAE National students joins HCT annually to study the
Paramedic Sciences starting from 2007.
- The
Department responded to 49661 Emergency Calls with a total
number of 56629 injured cases till June 2007.
- The
mortality rate decreased from 7.5% in 2001 to 2.9 in 2007.

The
Emergency & Public Safety Department participated
in many exhibitions, conferences locally and Internationally.
Many brochures, publications and public awareness posters
were issues. Special brochures for Hajj were also issued.

The
Emergency & Public Safety Department provided its
service to many local missions like, Sports, National
Days and many important special events.

The
Emergency & Public Safety Department responded to
many International missions for Search & Rescue Operations
like, Ebri-Oman in 2005, Pakistan Earthquake in 2005 and
Indonesia Earthquake in 2006 – 2007.
